Our Little Talks Podcast

On this episode we talk about a Greta Van Fleet concert we attended, talk briefly about the 2022 Oscar nominations and how Dad is the only person in the world to not hear the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno." Then we talk about how it's weird to think of your parents having girlfriends/boyfriends before you were born and the blessing of not having had social media in the 1970s and 80s. 

In our first episode of 2022, we discuss how hospitalizations and surgeries delayed our recording any episodes for two months, share our thoughts on Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, and lament having watched the dreadful Star Wars series "The Book of Boba Fett." 

In this episode, we talk about Dad's 50th birthday surprise party and being tired of watching the same Christmas specials and movies year after year. We also chat about people who make a point to let you know how much they hate Christmas music. Then we summarize and review Spiderman: No Way Home and things get dark when we talk about the futility mankind trying to reverse climate change.

It's the one year anniversary of Our Little Talks! On this episode we discuss our first year and recap Thanksgiving. Dad gets back on his high horse about not being a die hard sports fan and we talk about the Harry Connick Jr. as Daddy Warbucks.Then we give some thoughts on "Buy Nothing Day," talk about seeing the movie Dune and Dad reading the book. Then we talk about the Beatles documentary Get Back and then the rest of the show spills into random talk about ASMR and other weird tangents.

This episode opens with Dad discussing his 2012 appearance on the long defunct Disney themed podcast named The Hub Podcast. Next we talk about a Frank Oz interview where he and Dad have the same opinion of the modern incarnation of The Muppets. Then we discuss our visit to The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan to explore the "Jim Henson: Imagination Unlimited" exhibit. Then we finish the show with a discussion of the trailer for the new version of West Side Story and talk about the debate over hiring actors who more accurately represent the characters they portray.

In this episode, we talk about our new jobs, school mask policies, and Corinna's efforts to improve her driving skills. Next we talk about our return trip to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry on the same weekend as Lollapalooza. Then we mention some famous people from Michigan and daugther's new found admiration for Greta Van Fleet. Then we introduce a new segment, probably for the last time, where Dad reads "one star" restaurant reviews. Next Dad laments the times he's taken selfies, talk about The Epic of Gilgamesh and Jane Eyre, and explore the idea of Canadian money smelling like maple syrup. Finally, Dad talks about how boring Major League Baseball has gotten.

In this episode we fact check and revisit some conversations from our last episode. We also discuss the National Treasure show planned for Disney+ and Corinna talks about her first job as a corporate wage slave. Dad briefly mentions that he is interviewing for a new job as well and we discuss daugther's first week of driver's training. We then engage in a long melange of topics and discuss the strange, suspicious life of Frankenstein author Mary Shelley. Finally, we close out the show with dad wishing he could travel back in time and tell his dad to never take him to see Star Wars and discuss ideas for a couple of spin-off podcasts.

In our long awaited ninth episode, we discuss not realizing that The Oscars were on tonight and that we have never heard of any of the movies that are nominated. We then discuss the latest on our personal COVID vaccinations and everyone in our state giving up on mask mandates. Then we talk about our day trip to Chicago from a few weeks ago and how eating at local restaurants on trips is largely overrated. Then we make a few Oscar predictions without knowing anything about the movies and talk about how it is pointless to have arguments about who "the best" is at anything.

In this episode we celebrate the return of The Muppet Show and discuss a pair of episodes we watched together. We then discuss the "harmful content" disclaimer placed in front of several episodes which leads into a serious discussion about how to deal with racist and "problematic" content of art and entertainment in the past. We also dispute the idea that the Looney Tunes character Pepe Le Pew normalizes "rape culture." We finish things off with a few lighthearted discussions and tell a few jokes.

In our first episode of 2021 we talk about today's Super Bowl between Tampa Bay and Kansas City, dad talks about his first COVID-19 vaccine shot, we engage in some literary snobbery as we talk about books we've read so far this year and why older books are better than modern ones. We also talk about the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. We then discuss Cobra Kai Season 3 and then dad goes on a rant about die hard sports fans.
